Introduction- Why Teach?

 Why teach? 


I have been surrounded by the school system my whole life. My mom has worked in the school system as a school psychologist since I was in 2nd grade. My dad was a high school history teacher and a high school principal. Teachers have a huge impact on students that continues far beyond their schooling years. When I started thinking about my future, I knew right from the start that I wanted to become someone that helps others along with making an impact. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher but I was too scared to admit it until recently. Going into college, I picked my previous major based on what other people envisioned me becoming but I knew deep down that it was not my passion. I have always enjoyed being around kids whether it be hanging out with my friends' little siblings, babysitting, or working at a daycare. Not only did I enjoy being around children, I more enjoyed watching them learn. 




            My name is Sophie Corsi and I want to become a 4th grade Math and Science teacher. In high school, I was in a class that allowed me to go to the elementary school to student teach. I taught and observed the whole school year and spent about 3 weeks in each grade level (Early Childhood-6th grade). This experience was amazing. It was the first time I actually saw my future and it felt right to be at the elementary school. During this experience, I really enjoyed being in the 4th grade classroom because all the students were eager and excited to learn. I want to teach math/science because I have always gravitated toward math and science in school and it has always been easier for me than english/history.

      As I started this course, I was nervous because I was unsure about so many things involving the school system. Do I Have The Full Picture?

        Term "full picture" is very commonly used among people but a lot of people struggle with the meaning of this term. Most people believe they are seeing the full picture when it comes to people, things, and ideas but in reality, they are only looking at parts of the picture. The term "full picture" means that an individual has a full or overall sense of a situation or topic, taking into account all related factors and consequences. In the world, people tend to overlook parts of the picture because it either does not concern them or does not affect them but by doing this, problems are created. A good example of this happening is in school curriculum because schools provide students with most details about history but refrain from providing students with an overall description of the topics. What Does Money Really Have To Do With It?

    Money is a big aspect of everyday life. Because of the way the world works, money is required for almost everything in life (gas for driving, food, utilities in a home, and schooling). When it comes to money, the more money you have tends to mean that you have more than others that have less money. This is a concept that is very important to remember when thinking about public schools and their funding. In the article, "Separate and Unequal: School Funding in 'Post-radical' America", it states that p ublic schools are funded by local property tax which ultimately means that schools that are located in wealthier areas are more likely to raise more money from sources around them than schools that are located in poor areas.
